Objective: This study is focused on whether the factor structure, including inattention factor and hyperactive/impulsive (HI) factor in Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), are stable from toddlerhood to childhood.
Methods: This study was carried out from 2003 to 2011 in south of Taiwan and participated by 511 mothers with 1.5 to 3-year-olds toddlers. All mothers had completed Disruptive Behavior Rating Scale-toddler (DBRS-toddler) and Home Situation Questionnaire (HSQ-toddler). Removing incomplete data, the effective sample was 477, in which 96 mothers completed Child Behavior Checklist For Ages 1 ½ -5 (CBCL / 1 ½ -5). Confirmatory factor analysis and exploratory factor analysis were applied to establish the factor structure of DBRS-toddler; then AIC and chi-square difference test were used to select the model with reference of RMSEA, SRMR, CFI, and NNFI. Finally, the Tucker's consistency coefficient was utilized to explore the similarity of factors.
Result: The result suggested that inattention and hyperactivity/ impulsivity was independent factors, since the three-factor model, consist of inattention factor, hyperactive/impulsive(HI) factor and oppositional defiant factors, had better index of fit than the two-factor model. Tucker's consistency coefficient represented the meanings of factors are equal by analyzing the similarity of factors between this study and other studies, and resulting in the consistency higher than .95.
Conclusions: Disruptive behavior has universally stable factor structure through different ages, birth weight and cultures.
