This paper investigates whether audit reports could provide investors with useful information from the aspect of crash risk. Using the difference-in-difference method, the empirical results show that compared to firms listed on the Alternative Investment Market, the degree of reducing crash risk is more pronounced for companies with a premium listing that have adopted extended audit reports. Further, the effect of transferring extended-audit information is especially favorable for investors in weak information environments. In addition, we inspect the content of extended audit reports and provide evidence that with more key audit matters disclosed, the significance degree of reducing crash risk increases. However, this result is mitigated with increases in uncertain words.
