This research presents a design that offers a playful, tangible way for young children to engage with technology and engineering concepts during their foundational early childhood years. This paper describes the development of a drawing interaction design for children, a newly-created drawbot kit for children. It is designed explicitly for young children. The kit has gone through several design iterations over the past two years. The newest version allows young children to become engineers by constructing robots using motors, sensors, and craft materials, and it makes it possible for users to learn and have fun at the same time.
There are lots of other drawbot product designs on the market today. The most important difference between our drawbot design and its counterparts is that our design provides a different type of interaction. Unlike a printer-like drawbot, our drawbot design can draw along with the user. Other drawbots usually start drawing after the user finishes. The entire design process comprises a plotter design, a website design, and a teaching section, among which the plotter design is divided into four parts: the skeleton design, line configuration, program control, and paper craft design, and finally, the four projects are integrated together. There is a lot of room for improvement in the results for each phase, which will continue to be revised in the future to achieve a higher degree of completion, and plans are being made to promote the results to a recruitment platform test.
This main purpose of this paper is to show the design history and its implementation. Hopefully it can offer help for others interested in this type of implementation.
