With the growing of the TFT-LCD industries, the demand of high-tech driver IC is increasing. The traditional supply chain model will be modified for the industries of high-tech drive IC in response to the more complex product structure. Therefore, the supply chain system with a single designer who is the system leader and parallel cooperation producers is developed gradually. However, how to control the quality and reduce the cost is the IC designer’s main concern. Making correct decisions and reducing costs are also the main concerns for the other chain members.
This research constructs a system that consists of a two-stage supply chain and a dominant IC designer who designs the product and contracts to chain members, i.e., the upstream and the downstream members. The IC designer determines the price paid to the downstream and has to monitor the quality of the product and manage the customer’s dissatisfaction. Otherwise, the chain members have to determine their own inspection policies. The interactions between the pricing strategy of the IC designer and the chain members’ inspection policies are modeled as a sequential game. Our analysis reveals that the upstream member and the downstream member have the opposite inspection policies. We also analyze the influence of the penalty contract on the chain members’ equilibrium inspection strategies and each member’s equilibrium profit.
