The persecution of engineering behavior often affects the breeding space of benthic gobies. If we can create a temporary shelter suitable for the gobies, we can contribute to ecological preservation. This study gathers information related to Rhinogobius rubromaculatus, designs artificial habitats that are beneficial to this species, and conducts experiments in a stream environment in the Wu-Gou-Shui area of Wanluan Township, Pingtung County. The content includes the height of the habitat, the factor of water quality, the measurement of the state of the hyporheic flow, and the distribution of the particle size of substrate. The results of survey which was analyzed with statistical analysis showed environmental preferences of the target species in the use of artificial habitats. With this result, it would be much accurate to choose and place artificial habitats. The results showed that the height of the habitat used by the gobies to be used for spawning was mostly within double of their height. The gobies preferred to breed at the higher temperature and dissolved oxygen concentration in the stream environment; and avoiding the point where the dissolved oxygen concentration is low, placing the artificial habitat on the riffle area is conducive to the breeding of the gobies. The results also confirmed that the design of the artificial habitat can make enough habitat space for gobies to breed when the stream carried a lot of mud and sand which could buried artificial habitat.
