  • Background: Muslim female college students had higher prevalence of inactive physical activity than male had. Due to a lack of appropriate gym class for female students and Islamic dress code, they had barriers to participate in physical exercise of societies encounters. Physical exercise might be further compromised by competing demands on time due to academics to college female students. Therefore, how to develop a feasible physical activity promotion program for university students and its strategy are issues to worthy study
    Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore, identify barriers, analysis types of physical activity, in older to develop a culturally appropriate physical activity program and verify the feasibility of the physical activity promoting program for Muslim female collage students.
    Methods: An action research was applied in this pilot study. Focus group and expert committee panel were used to collect data and to determine or to reveal the data analysis and the program design. A four-stage cultural adaptation framework was applied to determine the barriers to physical activity and to develop an evidence-based physical activity (PA) program for Muslim female college students in STIKES Panakkukang Makassar of Indonesia.
    Results: Through four-step by Heuristics framework, the findings revealed that barriers are common barrier and social-cultural barrier. Common barrier (e.g., lake of motivation, doing a PA by mood-oriented, lack of knowledge, prioritizing personal obligation for stud, lack of family support, lack of peer accompany, study scheduled too full, curriculum without pa course, students clubs without PA options, lack of facilities for PA, space insufficiency for PA, and weather influence), Social-culture (e.g., instructor limited for intimate contact, segregation with men when did a PA, influence by Ramadan fasting, concern people’s gossip for different dressing when did a PA, religion dressing limited the PA option and to avoid exposing the body parts limited for PA). The second findings related to type of PA most of the favour to dancing, running, play badminton and walking. In order traditional dance were develop to promoting PA among Muslim female college students and the feasibility of the program are affective to promote their PA among the population.
    Conclusion: The pilot study was through Heuristics framework to develop a feasible strategy creating an Indonesia traditional dance club to promote Muslim female college students in engaging in physical activity. The key aspects when designing culture and gender-specific dance interventions and active engagement in planning and implementation of the program, a supportive environment, same gender and culturally attuned dance instructor, easy access, and minimal to no cost.
