本研究以帝汶島民居為研究對象，從類型研究的觀點探討帝汶島14個種族民居的空間形制與構造系統。田野調查所搜集的案例，經由實地測繪、3D建模與比較分析，發現帝汶島民居類型的規則系統。規則系統包括空間規則與構造規則，空間規則有五群，分別為(cen)、(aln)、(stk)、(att)、(jux)；構造規則有兩群，分別為「柱群分立型」及「單元堆疊型」。
帝汶島民居類型規則系統具有描述與生產兩種效能，一方面可以描述帝汶島各種民居的空間形制與構造系統，一方面也可以生產新的建築案，而這些建築案將會具有帝汶島民居類型的特色。設計創新的機會蘊藏在類型規則系統的生產效能當中，從民居類型研究到建築設計創新成為一種可能，本研究最後以「東帝汶民族博物館設計」作為驗證。

The study focused on the houses in Timor Island. From the viewpoint of typological study, the houses of 14 ethnic groups were investigated on two aspects of spatial layout and construction system. The house cases collected from field survey were measured, drawn, 3d-modelled, comparatively studied and analyzed to find the typological rule system. The rule system contains spatial rules and construction rules. The spatial rules include five groups of rules, such as (cen)、(aln)、(stk)、(att)、(jux). The construction rules include two groups, “separate column groups with specific functions” and “stacking construction units”.

The typological rule system has two efficacies of description and production. The rule system can describe the spatial layouts and construction systems of Timorese house types. The rule system can also generate new architectural design, which will possess the characters of Timorese houses. The opportunity of innovative design is embedded in the producing efficacy of the typological rule system. It is possible for designers to make new design from the typological house study. The producing efficacy of the rule system was demonstrated and verified with the hypothetical design project “National Ethnology Museum of Timor Leste”.
