臺灣考古遺址中，煙斗多集中出土在蘭陽平原，其中又以蘭陽平原北端的淇武蘭遺址出土數量最多。淇武蘭遺址出土之煙斗，依據形態可分為無柄煙斗與有柄煙斗。本研究以淇武蘭遺址出土之陶質煙斗為研究對象，首先透過器形分類檢視木柱分層作為相對年代架構之可行性，並從斗缽形制、製作投入程度、出土脈絡與年代分布等面向，探討無柄與有柄煙斗於使用情境與社會功能上的可能差異，以及其歷時性變化所可能反映之社會差異。
本研究以塑形、器表處理以及裝飾等作為煙斗製作投入之評分依據，將陶質煙斗分為粗糙、中等以及精緻程度三個層級，並測量斗缽的深度與寬度，以計算斗缽深寬比。最後結合木柱分期與出土脈絡，比較無柄與有柄煙斗在斗缽形制、製作投入程度及空間分布上的差異。
研究結果顯示，部分煙斗器形於不同木柱分期中呈現一定程度之分布趨勢，顯示木柱分層於分期使用上之可行性。在斗缽深寬比、製作投入程度與出土脈絡上，無柄煙斗與有柄煙斗皆呈現不同趨勢。透過深入探討，本研究認為無柄與有柄煙斗雖皆可能作為日常吸煙工具，但於使用情境與社會功能上具有不同傾向。其中，無柄煙斗整體較偏向個人日常使用，而有柄煙斗則可能於社交互動情境中發揮展示功能。此外，煙斗之歷時性變化亦可能反映淇武蘭社會中的社會差異。

Ceramic smoking pipes recovered from archaeological sites in Taiwan are concentrated on the Lanyang Plain, with the largest assemblage excavated from the Kiwulan site. The ceramic pipes from Kiwulan comprise two types: pipes without shanks and pipes with shanks. This study first employs typological classification to evaluate the feasibility of the wooden-post sequence as a relative chronological framework. It then examines bowl depth-to-width ratios, production investment, depositional contexts, and chronological distribution to explore differences in use contexts, social functions, and their relationship to social differentiation.
Bowl depth-to-width ratios were first calculated. Production investment was then evaluated using a scoring system based on forming, surface treatment, and decoration, classifying the ceramic pipes into coarse, medium, and fine categories. Spatial analysis integrated the wooden-post sequence with depositional contexts to compare the two pipe types.
Several pipe forms have shown clear diachronic trends, supporting the applicability of the wooden-post sequence as a relative chronological framework. Pipes with and without shanks display contrasting patterns in bowl depth-to-width ratios, production investment, and depositional contexts. Although both types likely served as everyday smoking implements, they differed in their primary use contexts and social functions: pipes without shanks were primarily associated with individual daily use, whereas pipes with shanks were more likely to serve a display function during social interactions. Furthermore, diachronic changes in the pipe assemblage may reflect social differentiation within Kiwulan society.
