臺北車站為六鐵共構的首都交通系統樞紐，每日乘載大量國內外旅客，臺北都會區三大交通樞紐另外還有南港車站以及板橋車站，周邊延伸設立許多地下街商場連結原本的商圈及文創園區，形成多元發展的特定專用區。捷運機場線通車後，臺北車站成為國外旅客抵臺後的第一站，車站周邊的發展與規劃將會塑造臺灣國門的印象。臺北市政府透過臺北車站特定專用區計畫促進專用區的整體發展，提供延續性的開放空間創造人本發展為主的都市景觀及印象，並根據本區的歷史涵構實施西區門戶計畫，有效提升臺北的都市意象，展現臺北豐富的都市紋理，於開發過程中兼顧古蹟的歷史記憶，創造新舊融合的臺北印象及足跡。

然而，步行於臺北車站周邊，除了感受歷史古蹟的薰陶外，仍會發現部分街廓區域圍繞著老化與沒落，並隱藏在古蹟的周邊，雖然內部郵務機能仍正常運作，但外部空間的展延及行人活動的便利性，受有莫大的限制，又都市老舊空間的閒置規劃，以及閒置空間再利用等都將帶動區域整體的發展效益，透過重新整理都市紋理串聯開放性空間，使人本發展得以有效發揮。臺北市政府提倡的臺北車站特定專用區計畫以及西區門戶計畫，主要目的是活化老舊空間並創造臺北車站周邊的新發展，臺北郵局位於發展計畫軸線的中間段，透過臺北郵局的古蹟保存與周邊環境的都市再開發，引入商業及辦公的新機能，期盼對區域性發展產生應有的效益。

本研究透過文獻蒐集與彙整，檢視臺北車站特定專用區周邊環境的發展脈絡與其相關規劃，整理出現況發展上的缺乏點和潛力點，以特定專用區內的臺北郵局為保存及開發的基地，調查及分析目前周邊環境所面臨的課題，歸納出相對應的設計策略，並提出臺北郵局都市更新的都市設計構想，期望提升都市的環境品質及有效活化都市老舊空間。

Taipei Main Station is the hub of the capital's transportation system, which consists of six railroad lines and carries a large number of domestic and international passengers every day. The three main transportation hubs in the Taipei metropolitan area are Nangang Station and Banqiao Station, and numerous underground shopping malls have been established nearby, connecting with the original shopping areas and cultural and creative parks, forming a specific area for diversified development. With the opening of the MRT airport line, Taipei Station will become the first stop for foreign visitors arriving in Taiwan, and the development and planning around the station will shape the impression of Taiwan's national gateway. The Taipei City Government promotes the overall development of the area through the Taipei Main Station Specific Area Project by providing continuous open spaces to create a people-oriented urban landscape and impression, and by implementing the Western District Gateway Project based on the historical connotations of the area, effectively enhancing Taipei's urban image, showcasing Taipei's rich urban fabric, incorporating the historical memory of monuments into the development process, and creating an impression and footprint of Taipei that connects the old with the new.
However, walking around Taipei Main Station, one can not only experience the historical monuments, but also notice that some of the street areas are characterized by aging and decay, hiding around the monuments. Reorganizing the urban fabric and linking open spaces will enable effective people-oriented development. The Taipei Station Specific Area Project of the Taipei City Government and the Western District Gateway Project aim to revitalize old areas and create new developments around Taipei Main Station. The preservation of the Taipei Post Office and the urban redevelopment of the surrounding area are expected to introduce new business and office functions that will provide the desired benefits for regional development.
Through literature collection and compilation, this study examines the development of the surrounding area of Taipei Main Station and related plans, compiles the shortcomings and potentials in the development of the existing situation, takes Taipei Post Office in the designated area as the basis for conservation and development, studies and analyzes the current problems of the surrounding area, summarizes the related design strategies, and proposes an urban design concept for the urban renewal of Taipei Post Office, hoping to improve the quality of the urban environment and effectively revitalize the old urban space.
