According to COVID-19, a decades-long transition to remote work was suddenly accelerated, as digital technologies has become main channels for many employees to stay productive and engaged. On the other hand, the acceleration also allows a range of technostress concerns to impact their health as well as motivation. The fear of missing out (FoMO) has drawn the interest of researchers on this subject. The current study investigates how FoMO at work impact on work-related social media (SMU) sites usage and job performance of employees during the COVID-19 pandemic time. Grounded by the job demands-resources (JD-R) and self-determination theory (SDT), we have developed a research framework based on the relationship among workplace FoMO, work-related SMU, job engagement, burnout, job performance, and job autonomy. Path analysis on a total of 348 responses obtained from full-time employees in the United States (US) was used to test the hypothesized relationships between the variables. The result confirmed significant relationships between workplace FoMO and work-related SMU, as well as mediation effects of job engagement and burnout on work-related SMU and job performance. Moreover, job autonomy also moderated the relationship between work-related SMU and burnout. The finding contributes to organization science and IT usage by extending FoMO in the context of work and offer useful and practical implications in organization.
