本論文以高雄的都市水岸為對象，透過觀察世界上大都市的水岸現況，以及閱讀近代基地規模、水岸空間再生背景與高雄相似的都市案例，重新反省水岸開發的作法。以地景都市主義的核心觀念「連續性」展開規劃配置，打破傳統上建築與自然絕對分離的概念，融合建築與地景，並延伸出環境共生、提供良好外部性、創造新的空間機會三項特點。

第二部份包含規劃配置與旅館設計。規劃配置的發展以下列五項設計原則為依歸：量體是低矮的、創造的環境意象與過去的歷史有連結、增加水陸界面的機會、創造地面無車輛的徒步環境、交通多元化。最後以類型常見、型態多元且有一定複雜性的旅館，作為建築設計的演練。

The thesis provides a new vision towards the designing of waterfront. Kaohsiung is the city taken for this investigation. By observing a few cases worldwide on the development of urban in recent decades, Landscape urbanism is the view adopted for this endeavor, which stresses on the continuity of buildings and surroundings to the extent that they are visually and spatially indistinguishable. This main idea characterizes three features: environmental sustainability, positive externality, and diversified spatial opportunity.

The design is consist of two parts: the site planning and a hotel design. The site plan is developed according to five design guidelines as follows: low massing, built images associated with historical landscape, increase waterfront accessibility, vehicle-free zone, multimode transportation connection. The hotel design demonstrates the spatial qualities as created by free forms.
