This study examines how intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation, and subjective norms shape entrepreneurial intention among parents in Taiwan. It proposes a model in which entrepreneurial motivation mediates these three antecedents and entrepreneurial intention, and tests whether work-family conflict moderates the motivation–intention link. The study collected 251 valid responses from parents who were running, had run, or were considering a business. Results show that extrinsic motivation has the strongest effect on entrepreneurial motivation (β = .460), followed by subjective norms (β = .316) and intrinsic motivation (β = .196). These three variables explain 70.2% of the variance. Entrepreneurial motivation significantly predicts entrepreneurial intention (β = .749) and partially mediates all three antecedent–intention paths. Work-family conflict does not moderate the motivation–intention path. This null finding likely reflects sample selection effects, the cancellation between push and pull forces, and the buffering role of family support in Chinese culture. This study distinguishes motivational sources from motivational intensity and reveals a unique motivational hierarchy among parental entrepreneurs.
