In this thesis, we made left-hand meta-material which is formed by a periodic array of interspaced conducting nonmagnetic split ring resonator and continuous wire, the permeability and permittivity are effectively negative simultaneously, and hence the index of refraction is negative. We report a direct observation of phase advance in the range of X band (8-12.5 GHz) as a consequence of the appearance of negative index of refraction.
The sharpness of the image formed by a conventional lens is always limited by the wavelength of light. Recently, Pendry proposed a superlens with medium of negative index of refraction such that the resolution is not limited by wavelength. We report a direct observation of imaging beyond the limit of wavelength in the microwave range of X band.
