Poles play an essential role in supporting existing objects in a railway electrification system (e.g., catenaries, droppers, etc.).The disposition poles could affect the electrical energy transmitted from the contact wires to the trains through pantographs. Therefore, this study proposed a systematic method for monitoring the railway electrification poles to reduce the possibility of contact loss due to the pole disposition. Two different locations of northern Taiwan, in New Taipei City and Yilan County, were measured using Mobile Laser Scanner (MLS) at two different acquisition times. The result of pole detections showed that more than 80% of poles had been successfully detected. The displacement angle of the poles that were successfully detected was then estimated. The average displacement angle values computed from the proposed method are 1.1ᵒ and 1.3ᵒ, respectively, in New Taipei City and Yilan County. Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) were used to to evaluate the pole displacement angles. The values of RMSE were 1.2ᵒ in New Taipei City, and 1.6ᵒ in Yilan County respectively
