  • Nowadays, the market for catamarans is demanding compared to other types of vessels. Besides, since catamarans are very popular with its types, many researchers try to improve focusing on preliminary design. The resistance calculation of catamaran is one of important parts in the preliminary design. The theoretical calculation of the hull resistance is complex. However, it offers lower costs than the model test evaluation. This reason justifies the effort to study many different theoretical methods capable to show an appropriated evaluation of the hull resistance.
In this research, the resistance of different types of catamaran is explained in the exploration of relationship and effect of ship design variables with total resistance in different types of catamaran at preliminary design stage. There was three methods performed which are parametric approach, statistical approach and optimization approach. The methods are subjected to find unknown variable and predict the value through empirical formula, to find ship characteristic from statistical perspective and to solve cases for design objectives.
