Background
Because the risk of complication, the patients of diabetes are a priority of
target for influenza vaccination. However, the behavior of diabetic patients
relative to vaccination is unknown. The aim of the present study was to identify
the factors influencing the decision-making of diabetic patients regarding
influenza vaccination.
Methods
A cross-sectional survey was conducted between Jan 1 and Feb 28, 2012 in
diabetic patients at Cheng Kung University Hospital using self-administered
questionnaire based on Health belief model (HBM). Data items collected were
socio-demographic data, vaccination status, and the HBM dimensions. The
associations between questionnaire variables and vaccination were assessed by
univariate and multiplie analysis.
Results
Our study included 695 type Ⅱ diabetes patients ,the results show that the
age, gender and the past experience of get influenza vaccination will influence the
patient to get influenza vaccination and further as predictors. Age, gender, and
experience of vaccination will impact the health belief
Conclusion
A high proportion of people who were male and aged 40-64 years did not
receive influenza vaccination. Educational approach should be targeted toward
these risk group to rise the vaccination rates.
