African migrants in Taiwan face numerous challenges that impede their ability to adapt, integrate, and nurture their sense of belonging. This study addresses this issue by examining the interplay between existing cultural and immigration policies, multicultural practices, and public perceptions to assess their collective impact on supporting African minority migrants in Taiwan. This research investigates the integration challenges faced by these migrants as they navigate their new lives. Furthermore, this study explores the necessity of interculturality in communities that cater to the social and cultural needs of migrants.

Employing a mixed methods approach involving surveys, literature reviews, semi-structured story sharing interviews, and web content analyses, this study’s inquiries center around the themes of sense of belonging and cultural identity among African migrants in Taiwan. By examining the active social communities in which African migrants participate, the study explores how these communities address the diverse and varying needs of African individuals. Moreover, it underscores the significance of fostering interculturality within these communities to help migrants maintain their cultural identity and foster a sense of belonging through intercultural exchanges.

Ultimately, this study contributes valuable insights and recommendations aimed at enhancing the support provided by local organizations to foster a strong sense of belonging among African migrants in Taiwan. By examining their communities in Taiwan, this research sheds light on effective approaches that can be adopted by social organizations and communities to better address their specific needs. The findings of this study will help inform the development of tailored initiatives and interventions that facilitate the cultivation of a robust sense of belonging among African migrants in Taiwan, ultimately promoting their integration and well-being in the host society.
